New Beer News

Greetings folks! We have gotten in a few new beers and I figured I would share this news. Founder's Bolt Cutter Barleywine has arrived, so come in and get a bottle while supplies last. In addition, we have also procured more Southern Tier Pumking, a perfect beer for a hearty Thanksgiving Dinner.

Weekly Beer Reviews

We have 3 outstanding, extremely limited seasonals going up for Thanksgiving on the wall. Read the reviews below and come and get a fill of your favorite while supplies last!

Southern Tier Old Man Winter

This beer continues to impress as a perfect balance between malt and hops. The nose has light hints of citrus, grass, poblano peppers, and earth. The taste is a little more one-dimensional to start with bitter flavors of citrus. That quickly transforms into a wondeful finish that has subtle flavors of perfume, pine, and cranberries. For those of you looking for something to appeal to the whole family, look no more!

Mike, Tyler, and Cody's Rating - 8.25/10

Schlafly Tasmanian IPA

The wait for this one has been excruciating, but it is finally here. The aroma is incredibly pungent, with aroma's of grapefruit, pineapple, onions, and armpit hops. The taste is just as impressive with tons of hop flavors. Citrus, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, onions, and toast were all picked up on the taste. The finish is smooth and refreshing with subtle flavors of pizza crust and lemon. This beer will definitely tide many of the hop lovers over to HopSlam season.

Mike, Tyler, and Cody's Rating -9.25/10

Schlafly Pumpkin Ale

I have been saving this one for Thanksgiving week. Everyone's favorite pumpkin ale is back on tap! The nose is impressive, with aroma's of nutmeg, coriander, pumpkin spice, cinnamon, and cream cheese. The taste is exquisitely smooth with strong flavors of pumpkin pie, zucchini bread, brown sugar, and pumpkin. The finish fits a Pumpkin Ale perfectly with softer flavors of whipped cream and pumpkin spice. Come and fill up a jug for Thanksgiving Day!

Weekly Beer Reviews

Goose Island Nut Brown Ale

This brew had quite the diverse nose for a Nut Brown Ale, with aroma's of chocolate, grapefruit, dirty raisins, and hickory shining through. The beer is smooth for a brown ale, with no hop whatsoever in the taste. Instead you get flavors of hazelnuts, figs, cinnamon, and whipped cream. The finish is slightly bitter, though it quickly smooths out with flavors of cream and oats. A solid brown ale at a good price ($6.99 a growler) for the late Fall.

Mike, Tyler, and Cody's Rating - 7/10

Abita Christmas Ale

Abita's Christmas Ale presents a different take on the Brown Ale category than Goose Islands. The hops are prominent on the nose with hints of citrus, earth, cherries, and a slightly bitter smell. The hops translate to the flavor with pine, earth, and mineral water prominent up front. A slight bitterness trails into the finish with more hop flavors that present hints of oregano and black tea. If a hoppy Brown Ale is your thing, look no further.

Mike, Tyler, and Cody's Rating - 7.25/10

Breckenridge Christmas Ale

Another Christmas Ale, though this one is a rare style called a Winter Warmer. The nose is soft with aromas of black pepper and wood chips with floral hints as well. The taste is sweet with strong tastes of soap, citrus, maple, and fruit medley. The finish is quick with bitter pine flavors. You can definitely feel a bit of the heat on this one. This beer is perfect for those cold nights by the fireplace.

Mike, Tyler, and Cody's Rarting - 8.25/10

Weekly Beer Reviews

Goose Island Lolita

This Sour Ale is made with raspberries and aged on a Pinot Noir barrel. Tart Raspberries prevail on the nose, with a subtle oak aroma. The taste is sour and dry, with soft flavors of overripe raspberries. The finish shows off that oak with the dryness ramping up. Even though it is one-dimensional and needs some age, it still hits the spot as an excellent sour. Though not for two regulars, Mike and Tasha, that happened to be visiting at the time of the tasting.

Mike, Tyler, and Cody's Rating - 8/10

Brooklyn Sorachi Ace

This Saison has never been on tap, and I was curious to see how it compared to Belgian ones we have had before. This American take on that style is quite a bit different. The aroma is diverse and contains hints of clove, tea, cracked pepper, pineapple, and honey. The taste is tart with flavors of clove, tea, and honey shining through. The finish is light with a smooth, malty flavor. This beer is refreshing for such a high ABV beer.

Mike, Tyler, and Cody's Rating - 8.25/10

Leinenkugels Big Eddy Wee-Heavy Scotch Ale

We have had this one on before, though this one has more age on it. For those of you who have never had a Scotch Ale, this one is a beast. Alcohol, sweet malt, and maple syrup assaulted our noses upon getting a whiff of this incredibly flavorful brew. Very sweet up front, flavors of bacon, bran, and onion prevailed throughout. The finish showcased that strong alcohol with lighter hints of smoke and oak. Not a bad beer, but a bit too sweet.

Mike, Tyler, and Cody's Rating - 5/10

Dogfish 75 Minute IPA

We were a little short on beer additions this week, so we decided to rate a blend of the 60 and 90 Minute IPA's. This blend is not seen too often, so I hope you all make it out while these two IPA's are on tap. The nose is incredibly hoppy with hints of citrus and onion with a light earthiness. The flavor is bitter with citrus, toast, earth, and pine shining through. These flavors continued into the finish, with the bitterness dieing off to provide a smooth finish. Definitely an outstanding combination.

Mike, Tyler, and Cody's Rating - 9/10
