We had a guest taster for today's beer reviews. Stephanie, a long-time Cashier at Liquor Barn St. Matthews, jumped in with us. It was her last day, and we wish her luck going forward with All-State Promos.
Great Lakes Wright Pils
This crisp, Summer Pilsner from Great Lakes has graced our wall. The aroma is light and floral, with sweet hints of cauliflower and corn. The taste is slightly bitter up front, with plenty of herbal qualities. The bitterness would smooth out in the finish, with strong hints of cornflakes. This Pils was refreshing and smooth, and is certainly a good choice for these hot end-of-summer days.

Great Lakes Burning River Pale Ale
This has to be one of my favorite Pale Ales of all time. The nose was zesty, with light aroma's of chocolate and mineral water. The taste sticks on the lighter side, with a slight bitterness up front. Earthy hops abound, with the taste of mineral water emerging. The finish was surprisingly smooth and creamy, with the bitterness fading quickly. This Pale Ale is light and refreshing for Summer, while still packing a lot of hop flavor.

Stone Double Dry-Hopped IPA
This is the second specialty Stone IPA that has graced our wall this week. The aroma is full of citrus, pepper, and basil. It makes for a fairly diverse aroma. The taste is refreshing, with subtle flavors of lemon zest and soap. Bitter up front, that smooths out on the finish with a light, floral flavor. It was hard to detect a lot on this beer, but what we could pick up was pleasant.

Great Lakes Lake Erie Monster
This customer favorite Summer Imperial IPA has returned to our wall! The aroma is incredible, even with the age it has on it. Pineapple, mango, tangerine, and banana made for a delicious aroma. Some of it transferred into the flavor. It was slightly sweet, with soft flavors of papaya and fruit medley. The finish, however, was fairly bad. Bitter with too much of an alcohol flavor and lots of garlic. If you can get past the subpar finish, this Imperial IPA has a lot to offer.
