Weekly Beer Reviews

Abita Fall Fest

This is Abita's Oktoberfest and was one of our featured beers for Pint Night. The nose is light, with soft aroma's of hay, kettle cooked popcorn, and sweet grapefruit. It is certainly a bit different than some of the Oktoberfests. The taste is light with hints of sweet corn. That flavor dissipates, leaving a dry and bitter finish. Despite that, it is remarkably smooth. However, there just isn't as much flavor as with some of the other Oktoberfests.

Green Flash Friendship Brew

This one steals the show on our wall. This is one of the most diverse and interesting beers I have tapped this year. It is considered a Belgian Style Strong Ale, yet it branches off into unknown waters. The nose is very aromatic, with the bouquet having hints of nutmeg, cinnamon, pine, mint, and chocolate. Honestly, this smells like the living room at my house during Christmas. The taste is just as intriguing, with flavors of mint, clove, cardamon, corriander, and pumpkin. All these flavors meld together before the finish snaps you in a different direction, with flavors of bitter dark chocolate, smoked meat, and black coffee. I recommend this one, even if my fellow tasters do not.

Three Floyds Robert the Bruce Scottish Ale

We just tapped another keg of Three Floyds immensely popular Scottish Ale. The nose was sweet, with hints of bran, oatmeal, and raisins. The taste wasn't as diverse as it usually is. Sweet cream, oatmeal, and a light bitterness came up front. The finish was smooth, but only that sweet cream remained of the flavor. This is certainly not the best keg I have tasted of this, though it wasn't bad. If you are a fan, this will still be worth every penny.
