Weekly Beer Reviews

Lore Orange Blossom Wheat

This one was a pleasant surprise. The nose is unique. It smells like licorice, orange, and an overwhelming aroma of...Necco Candy Hearts. Yes, I said Necco Candy Hearts. It even translates into the flavor of the beer. The candy flavor is accompanied by an overwhelming hop presence for a wheat beer. Orange and pine were evident off the first taste, with plenty of bloover thrown in. The finish was quick, with light hints of pine and a slight yeast flavor that is the only indication that this is a wheat. It seems Danville, KY can brew a good beer.

Founders Red's Rye P.A.

This has always been a Staff Favorite at work, especially for our former Food Manager Jackie. The nose has soft hints of lemon, pine, raisins, and fig. The taste is bitter, with flavors of onions and rye. The bitterness dies down some in the finish, though the flavor that is left is unpleasant. Tyler described it as tasting like copper pennies, and I couldn't deny it had a faint copperish flavor to it. Not a bad beer, especially with hoppy beers becoming scarce as the weather cools off.

Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA

This IPA has age on it. It definitely shows in the nose. The aroma is light with only small hints of plain popcorn and toasted bagels. The taste is bitter with bits of caramelized sugar and pine. The finish is completely different. The hops have died except for the bitterness. However, this has replaced the finish with a strong malt presence that exhibits a flavor of cocoa nibs.

Mike, Tyler, and Cody's Rating - 6.75/10
