Weekly Beer Reviews

Sierra Nevada Kellerweis

This Hefeweizen arrives a little early for Spring (though the weather would say differently). The nose is quite fragrant with lovely aromas of clove, nutmeg, banana, sour apples, and honey suckle. The taste is light and smooth throughout. The front really shows off that Granny Smith flavor with softer flavors of clove and papaya. The finish is quick with hints of bananas and cornpops. For those of you looking for easy drinking with tons of flavor, look no further.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

Everyone has had this craft beer favorite, though this is its first time on our wall. It has practically no nose though soft hints of fruit medley and soap are present. This beer is certainly lighter than most Pale Ale's we have had on our wall. The taste has flavors of apple, cherries, soap, and light hints of pine. The finish shows a slight bitter twang and flavors of apple peel. This smooth and refreshing APA will certainly hit the spot in the coming months.

Sierra Nevada Torpedo

This IPA is great for the price and drinks quite easy. The nose has subtle sour hints with soft aromas of funk, pine, mango, and papaya. This is a bitter bomb, with the bitterness being the main attraction. Soft flavors of citrus, earth, and parsley shone through on the front. The finish continued that pleasant bitterness with flavors of pine complimenting the bitterness nicely. It is a little light for my tastes, but certainly a smooth and refreshing IPA that you can't beat for the price.

Sierra Nevada Porter

I was looking forward to this Porter, as I had never tasted Sierra Nevada's American Porter. After tasting it, I can say I will never look for it again. Chocolate, vanilla, and light smoke made for a very pleasant nose for a Porter. The flavor, however, did not shine. A slight bitterness lingered throughout the beer and made it exceptionally dry. Flavors of baking chocolate and yoohoo were present on the front, with corn and mineral water flavors shining through on the finish. Altogether forgetful for a Porter though it should appeal to fans of Fullers Porter or Point Black Ale.

Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barleywine

The 2013 edition of Bigfoot has arrived, and boy is it different from 2011's and 2012's. The nose is citrus and candy necklace. Yes, it smells exactly like a candy necklace. The flavor profile is diverse with flavors of pine, lemon, brown sugar, taragon, and mint. The finish is quick and bitter with light flavors of grass and earth. This still tastes more like an Imperial IPA than a Barleywine, and it is perfect for the transition from Winter into Spring.

Mike and Tyler's Rating - 8/10
