Weekly Beer Reviews

Sorry for getting this out so late folks. Sickness has run rampant through our fair city, and I have been one of its many victims. As such, I had to wait until my taster and my sniffer were clear enough to give you all an accurate view of these beers. So, without further delay, here we go:

Green Flash Black IPA

We start out with this rare release from Green Flash. I was skeptical, as it is ever so hard to craft a solid Black IPA. Green Flash, however, delivers a quality product. The nose is pleasant with strong hints of pine and lemon zest to start. Faint hints of vinegar, wood, and raisins shine through as the nose takes shape. The taste starts off bitter and displays quite a hop character with flavors of lemon zest and grapefruit juice. The hops continue into the finish with flavors of lemon pith and prunes before the malt flavors take hold. Strong flavors of dark chocolate, wood chips, and burnt toast assault your tastebuds. This Black IPA should please both Stout Lovers and Hop Heads.

Green Flash Road Warrior Imperial Rye IPA

Next we move to the latest offering from Green Flash. Rye Beers can be very hit or miss, so I was curious to know what Green Flash could do with this style. Yet again, they knocked it out of the park. The nose gives succulent aromas of grapefruit, pineapple, and peaches. A fruity trinity that is sure to peak your interest. The taste is no different with an explosion of fruit. Peach, pineapple, and lime combine to overwhelm your tastebuds. Pine resin and floral notes pick up as the intensity of the fruit declines. The finish is where you get most of your malts. Beef stock, tarragon, wood chips, earth notes, and mushrooms make for an interesting finish to this great beer. Throw in a light hint of rye and pine as the finish rounds out, and this is a great addition to our wall.

Green Flash Palate Wrecker Imperial IPA

The last beer we have is a crowd favorite on our wall. This keg had a bit of age, and so I was wondering how the Palate Wrecker can hold up...The answer is very well. The nose is still quite aromatic with hints of pine, fresh linen, grapefruit, and mountain air. The taste starts out with flavors of pine, floral notes, and orange zest. Soon, flavors of raspberry, deodorant, and lemon juice join the equation to form a delightful opening to this beer. The finish is bitter with flavors of orange juice and lemon pith. Overall, it isn't as intense as it was, but the flavor is still spot on.

Mike and Tyler's Rating - 9/10
